A word from our Postulator, Fr. Brian, MC
Mother Teresa became for the world an example and symbol of loving service to the most needy. For her, each person was “my brother, my sister.” She also knew that works of love are works of peace. Already Paul VI referred to her as “the apostle of brotherhood and the messenger of peace.” As we look to her example, we may also ask her to pray that the same fire of love is enkindled in us.
Mother Teresa Intercedes….
“We had no children for three years being married. We had to go through lot of pain and humiliation. Nearby our home we have a shrine of Blessed Teresa of Kolkata. Every day we went there and prayed with tears. Through the powerful intercession of Mother we got a baby girl who is now studying in Class II.”
“I am a Buddhist. Last week I got the pathological report of Suspicious Thyroid Carcinoma and had a surgery. I prayed to God and asked the Blessed Virgin Mary and Mother Teresa to intercede and cure my disease. Today… I got the pathological report of the biopsy and it is only Follicular Adenoma, not carcinoma, which is non-cancerous.”
“At the end of February 2003, my late father Tyrell brought my brother to Mother’s Tomb. He prayed to Mother so that my Down’s syndrome brother could walk, because, as the doctors had said, he would not walk. The very next week my brother received a favour from our Mother Teresa, and he started walking.”
“When I came to Motherhouse, I was a very depressed and lost person. Though I had strong faith before, in the past few years my faith had all but deserted me. I felt that I was drowning in despair and hopelessness. I did not know what to do with my life. In fact, I did not even care to do anything with my life. Though I felt my spirit was closed, like a clenched fist, I still prayed. Three days after starting the Novena, I received an email from the school where I had applied to do a post-doctorate degree, saying a new scholarship had just opened up. I prayed, “If it is Your will for me to go back to studying, then please give me this scholarship”. The next day, I was awarded the scholarship. I began to picture myself as a professor and realised that I wanted to be able to teach, to help students reach their potential. By coming to this perspective, my direction and purpose became clear. And suddenly, my faith and enthusiasm started to return. As a professor and mentor, I hope to be someone that my students can reach out to for advice and faith. It has been over 3 months since I received the scholarship. The inner transformation since that time has been miraculous. I am now more positive, reflective and considerate person.”
“Leo discovered that his youngest son, who has been having so much pain in his hip, had cancer and that much of the bone had been consumed. He was immediately operated on, and we prayed and placed the relic of Mother on the affected part, but the cancer kept on growing. ‘God is asking of me the sacrifice of Abraham’, he said. His wife said, ‘we accept whatever He wants.’ The next check-up brought the incredible reward of their faith: the cancer had completely disappeared.”
“I have two sons who were hired as teachers. They were told that 600 teachers were going to be let go, and they were new, so surely they would go. I prayed a lot to Mother Teresa with all my faith that they wouldn’t be let go. They let go 600 teachers, yet my sons weren’t let go. For me it was a miracle, and I want to give thanks for it.”
“While planning to purchase a plot, we prayed to Mother Teresa. We got a good plot, and, by God’s grace, an underground water source with good output was also found, for digging a well”
In Her Words
PRAYER
“Love to pray. Feel often during the day the need for prayer and take trouble to pray. Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of containing God’s gift of Himself.”
“Prayer gives a clean heart and a clean heart can see God, can talk to God and peace comes.”
“In silence we are filled with the energy of God Himself that makes us do all things with joy.”
LOVE IN ACTION
“Love is not talking, love is living. I can talk about love the whole day and love not once – looking everywhere, except looking down when there is a man dying on the street.”
“Give them, not only your hands to serve, but also your hearts to love, with kindness and humility.”
“The sick and suffering don’t need pity and sympathy; they need love and compassion. That’s why it’s very important for you to realize the words of Christ. Jesus said. ‘You did it to me’.”
RELIGION
“Religion is a gift of God and is meant to help us become one heart full of love. God is our Father – and we are all His children – we are all brothers and sisters.”
“LOVE BEGINS AT HOME”
“If families come to be places of love and peace and holiness, then our nations and our world will live in love, peace and union with God and each other.”
“Smile at each other. Make time for each other in your family.”
RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE
“If a mother can kill her own child in the womb, why are we surprised at the violence and terrorism that is spreading all around us.”
“Let us bring peace into the world by love and compassion, by respecting life, the most beautiful gift of God. Let us love each person – the unborn, the young, the old, the sick, the poor with the same love that God loves each one of us, a tender and personal love.”
